St. Colman’s Credit Union recently reduced their education loan rate by a full 2% to 5.5%. Recent research shows that just 6% of third-level students in Ireland can fund education costs from savings and will need to avail of education loans.
The recent elevated inflation levels and substantial cost of living increases have made it even more difficult for families and students to fund and afford third-level education, including spiralling rents and accommodation costs. The Credit Union is in full empathy with the pressure this places on family finances and a key driver in the decision to lower rates, at a time when rates are actually on the rise.
Another interesting sidenote for students to bear in mind is the ‘Seamus Connaughton Student Bursary’, now in its ninth year. The bursary offers €2,000 each to 4 lucky winners in the Claremorris and Ballinrobe areas. A bursary application form is easily located on www.claremorriscu.ie under “Student Bursary” or by calling in to our Claremorris or Ballinrobe offices.
Terms and conditions apply of course and membership of the Credit Union is also a requirement, the latter easy to organise should it not be held.
For more information, drop into our offices in Claremorris or Ballinrobe, call Claremorris on (094) 937 1159 and Ballinrobe on (094) 954 1402 or visit our website at www.claremorriscu.ie
